My old trick of disabling the Windows Update service doesn't stop this either. And if I step away from the computer for about an hour, it auto-updates itself. ![]() It keeps auto-downloading (I'm close to exceeding my quota with my ISP this month because of this behavior). Originally I simply elected to defer it, but apparently you can't do that anymore. ![]() On top of that, Windows Update has gotten super-aggressive about updating to the Fall Creators Update. Well, they haven't fixed it, and now I get a message saying they're ending security updates for the version of Win 10 I'm running, and I need to update to the Fall Creators Update to continue getting security updates. So up to now, I've just been deferring the update, hoping Microsoft would eventually fix the problem (yes I reported it to them). But I didn't want to waste time doing that for two dozen programs. The only way I've found to fix it is by reinstalling the program (reinstalling Acrobat also fixed the PDF icon). So they're not being lost or deleted, just the info on the icons is somehow not being transferred to the Fall Creators Update. ■Rolling back the update restores the correct icons. ■Installing all updates available for the Fall Creators Update. ■Changing resolution (long shot - changing color depth used to force an icon cache refresh, but apparently Win 10 only supports 32 bit color depth). ■Deleting the icon cache (which is a lot harder than the guides for older versions of Windows make it out to be). And it affects different programs installed via the same installer. ![]() So it's not limited to non-Microsoft programs. Word and Excel along with about half of the Office suite are affected, but not the other half. The PDF icon shows up correctly in the file associations default program selection window. Acrobat's program icon shows up correctly. ![]() If you are exporting a large file with many images, choosing Standard may increase the file size significantly. If the converted Word doc is essentially text, the difference will be almost unnoticeable.
![]() There’s only a single MicroUSB port on the back of the disc that you’ll need to connect to either your TV’s USB port or to the wall using the included wall adapter, and a single button that will factory reset the Chromecast if held down. The original launch price is the same as the original Google Chromecast and the Google Chromecast (2nd Generation), and it's low for such a fantastic bit of kit. ![]() Since then, prices in the US and Australia have dropped a little-you'll find it available on the Google store for $29.99 and $49AU currently. The Google Chromecast (3rd Generation) cost $35 / £30 / $59AU at the time of launch. Now we've cleared that up, let's take a look at prices. This is because there might be different versions of the Chromecast now-like the Chromecast with Google TV-but this 3rd Gen device is still the latest regular Chromecast. The Google Chromecast (3rd Generation) is referred to as simply Google Chromecast on the Google store and by some retailers. However, if you're looking for a cheap and simple way to add streaming services to your TV then the Chromecast we're reviewing here still has solid appeal. In Google's own words, the older version is only about 15% slower than the newer version we're reviewing here. The 3rd Gen version is also not all that different from the device that came before it, the Google Chromecast (2nd Generation). On that note, if you're looking for a higher-end streaming device, rather than a stick, check out our best streaming device guide for our top suggestions. I, nonetheless, tried to power it using my TV’s USB port, but it prompted me to plug it directly into a main source of power. What's more, in Google's most recent streaming device, which you can read about in our Chromecast with Google TV review, you'll find 4K HDR with support for the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision formats, as well as significantly upgraded features, like a remote control. It needs a 5V/1.5A power brick to run, which is also included in the packaging materials. I can understand why the 4K model cannot be powered by a TV USB socket (I have the same device, and love it dearly as clearly outlined in the link below, including the fact that it runs a Google TV software that is easy to play around with). Cables just make things messier.īesides, modern TVs have a ton of ports, which are actually capable of powering small peripherals. Powering the device from a USB port is actually attractive because it means that you do not need to load your power extension with additional cables. The two devices need to be powered by a separate plug, which is a step backward from what many people had loved so much about their older sibling. However, this is not the case with the Chromecast with Google TV (4K), and the recently launched Chromecast with Google TV (HD). ![]() Does the library have meeting rooms for the public to use? – The library has a small conference room that holds a maximum of 18 people. The book sale shelves are in the lobby just outside of the Youth Services area. These colors work well in a bar or butler's pantry because they set the mood for relaxing and having fun. 'I love using deeper, moodier hues in an analogous color scheme such as violet, indigo, and teal. ' I love using analogous color schemes,' says Maggie. This example is from Maggie Clarke Interiors. For this reason, we'd recommend putting cooler tones in your home if you'd like to go with an analogous scheme.' 'In addition, warmer colours, while being inspiring and exciting, are often associated with danger - again, in the natural world the most dangerous animals and plants are often brightly coloured. Blues and greens also remind us of nature, which is particularly popular at the moment - we only need to look at the current trend of biophilia to show this. 'This is the same reason why some fast food establishments paint their rooms in warm colours - they want people in and out in a short amount of time. ![]() 'Naturally, people tend to associate stereotypically cooler tones to be more relaxing (think of green rooms), and warmer tones to feel more energetic,' explains Cigal Kaplan of the eponymous interior design studio. One main analogous color grouping that is often seen in interior design is the use of blues, greens, purples and teal shades - cool colors that sit on the cooler side of the color spectrum. (Image credit: Stefanie Rawlinson Photography. 'Whilst in smaller rooms an analogous colour scheme can prove creativity and adds visual interest to the space.' Cool color groupings 'In a large room, the colour scheme can accentuate the space, projecting coordination and interior flair,' says Ian Cameron, creative director at Cameron Design House. 30 percent will be your accent features like rugs, bedding, chairs, and 10 percent is the art, accessories and cushions.' Where in the house to use an analogous color schemeĪn analogous colour scheme can work well in both small and large-scale rooms. 'Think about using the main color - or 60 percent of the space - on the walls or large furniture. 'If you're looking for guidance, the 60-30-10 rule is a great rule of thumb to help ensure balance.' This rule dictates that when you're dividing up color, 60 percent of the scheme should be one color, 30 percent should be a second color, and 10 percent should be a third accent color. 'This analogous way of decorating is best suited to a room where you wish to layer multiple textures and accessories,' says Emma.Įmma also advises being mindful of proportions and dimensions. So how do you adopt an analogous color scheme in our own home? Think about using soft furnishings and textiles to create your analogous mood. It’s naturally pleasing to the eye.' How can I use an analogous color scheme? 'Or, a peacock with its incredible indigo, teal and green feathers. 'In the natural world, you just have to look at a sunset and enjoy the red seeping into the orange and yellow peachy hues,' says Emma from YesColours. ![]() ![]() Studies have shown being in nature has a soothing and revitalizing feeling on the body, so it's about replicating this in the home. The color psychology behind this theory is that an analogous story often relates to how we see things in nature, like the variation in color of plants, terrain, water, and flowers. ![]()
![]() It’s important to remember that 100Mbps refers to the potential top speed offered by the connection and there is no minimum speed guarantee. Why am I not getting the broadband speeds I signed up for?įor example, if you signed up for a broadband deal that has been advertised at 100Mbps but when you run a speed test, you’re only getting speeds of 20Mbps. ![]() Most suppliers offer great introductory offers for gigabit broadband deals, but just keep in mind that your local area needs to have been set up for fibre broadband connection. If you work remotely and need a consistently good connection, or you’re an avid gamer with a next-gen console or PC, a 500Mbs or even a 1Gbs package may be needed. If you have more than five devices in constant use in your household and you want to do all of the above, as well as sharing large files on a regular basis and conducting live video streaming, then you’ll need a connection speed somewhere between 150 and 200Mbps. When you increase the number of devices to three or four and you’re looking to do some online gaming or stream video in 4K resolution, you’ll need a connection that can reach 50 to 100Mbps. The answer depends on two things: the number of devices that are using the connection and the kinds of tasks you’ll be undertaking on a regular basis.Īs a rough guide, a household using one to two devices to browse the web, use social media and stream a moderate amount of video will need speeds that can reach around 25Mbps. How fast does my broadband speed really need to be? Like the ping, it is measured in milliseconds and the lower your jitter, the more consistent your connection is. Jitter is related to ping, in that it measures how consistent the speed of your ping is. The lower your ping, the faster your internet connection is at responding to the actions you ask it to take. Ping, which is measured in milliseconds, indicates how quickly your connection can respond to a request. So, don’t worry if your download and upload speeds are vastly different. Upload speeds tend to be a lot slower than download speeds since most of us do much less uploading than downloading. Your upload speed measures the rate at which you are able to add content to the internet or send messages, pictures and videos to others. On the other hand, a low download speed will leave you with long load times and pixelated or laggy video streams. So, a high download speed will allow you to load internet pages instantaneously and enjoy online video streaming without buffering. This is the rate at which your device is able to access content from the internet. The most important result is the download speed. While iPhone alarm volume and sound controls can be found in the Clock app, where they have existed since the very first iPhone, these options also appear in the Sleep section of the Health app, possibly creating a bit of confusion about which to use. This is mainly about the Shortcuts-app (and creating an alarm-syncing-shortcut) and less about any of the automations in HA I created to go with it.īefore I start explaining the automation, a bit of information: the iOS alarms and their properties (available to use in the Shortcuts-app): I’ve created multiple ‘shortcuts’ to make it work, but this is my final solution.
